About

Dr. Samiha Rahman is a scholar, organizer, and filmmaker. Her work examines how young people and their families engage race, religion, and education to achieve justice and liberation.

She is the author of Black Muslim Freedom Dreams: Islamic Education, Pan-Africanism and Collective Care and the director of the documentary short film I Came to Get You.

She is currently an Associate Professor of Human Development at California State University Long Beach. She holds a Ph.D. in Africana Studies and Education from the University of Pennsylvania.

Her research has garnered support from the Henry Luce Foundation, the Mellon Foundation, the Institute of Citizens and Scholars, the American Council of Learned Societies, the American Academy of Religion, the Spencer Foundation, the National Academy of Education, and the Fulbright-Hayes, among others.

Her work has been published in several peer-reviewed journals, including The Journal of the American Academy of Religion, Anthropology & Education Quarterly, The Journal of Negro Education, Curriculum Inquiry, and Africa.
